Vulcanisation systems, tyre recapping autoclaves

Vulcanisation transforms rubber (e.g. EPDM, NBR and other elastomers) from a state of predominant plasticity to a state of predominant high elasticity. There are now many different ways of using natural rubber for this important process. In addition to chemical fillers and reactants needed for vulcanisation, the so-called accelerators, vulcanising autoclaves are needed to heat the rubber / gum. Rollers, extruder articles, hoses, sheets, shoe parts, tyres and many other parts are vulcanised under pressure and steam or hot air.

The vulcanisation process begins by introducing saturated steam into the interior of the autoclave via the steam inlet. The required pressure and temperature conditions are created via the saturated steam and maintained at these values by the regulating and control elements. In order to achieve an even distribution of steam in the interior of the autoclave, in many cases a steam spray pipe is laid across the floor of the autoclave. The pressure equipment atmosphere is cooled down via the hall atmosphere. After cooling, the autoclave is depressurised via the air outlet valve.

In the Maschinenbau Scholz autoclaves, not only processes under pure saturated steam can be run, but vulcanisation in a steam-air combination or hot air atmosphere is also possible.
