Heat Soak Test – Increased Safety for Toughened Safety Glass

The Heat Soak Test is a thermal safety test developed for toughened safety glass. During this process, the glass is exposed to high temperatures for a defined period to reduce the risk of breakage caused by internal inclusions and thermal stresses.

If desired, you can choose autoclaves designed for carrying out the Heat Soak Test. Our plants are manufactured in accordance with all European and international regulations and are tested in-house. We thus guarantee you a high-quality production plant at the highest safety level.

Project-Specific Customization & Industry Experience

For more than 50 years, Maschinenbau Scholz has been manufacturing fully engineered autoclaves for the glass industry:

  • Tailor-made solutions for architectural glass, automotive glazing, solar panels, and specialized applications

  • Processing of tempered safety glass (TSG), laminated safety glass (LSG), and SGP interlayers

  • Comprehensive engineering, manufacturing, commissioning, and after-sales service

  • Full compliance with European and international standards, including certified safety requirements

  • Integration of specialized testing procedures such as the Heat Soak Test (HST) for tempered safety glass (TSG)

Frequently Asked Questions about Autoclave Glass Systems

What expertise does Maschinenbau Scholz bring to the glass industry?

Maschinenbau Scholz has around 50 years of experience in the development and manufacture of autoclaves for the glass industry. Our systems are engineered on a project-specific basis, allowing us to supply both laboratory units and large-scale plants for laminated glass, safety glass, and related laminating applications.

Which services does Scholz provide for autoclave systems?

We provide complete support from a single source: consultation, engineering, commissioning, training, maintenance, modernization, and retrofit of existing systems. The objective is long-term process safety and high plant availability.

Which glass types can be processed?

Depending on project requirements, our systems can be designed for laminated safety glass, toughened safety glass, SentryGlass® Plus applications, and other special glass processing tasks. Different glass thicknesses and laminating films can also be considered in the system design.

Can the systems be adapted to different component sizes?

Yes. Scholz systems are modular and scalable. This allows both small laboratory samples and large-format glass panes to be processed in one of our autoclave solutions for the glass industry without compromising process quality, temperature uniformity, or pressure control.

What is the Heat Soak Test, and why is it important?

The Heat Soak Test is a thermal safety procedure for toughened safety glass. It is used to reduce the probability of spontaneous breakage caused by internal inclusions. Scholz glass autoclave solutions can be designed specifically for this test, helping manufacturers increase product safety and process reliability.

When is laminated safety glass required?

Laminated safety glass is used wherever glass must meet increased safety requirements, for example in facades, windows, doors, partitions, automotive glazing, and large-format glass elements. Scholz glass lamination systems support the uniform laminating of glass layers with suitable interlayers to achieve the required mechanical and safety properties.
